I was curious to know if any PE'ers other than myself are into shooting. If so what is your main interest ie; pistols, long guns, competions, etc.

I do. I have a Glock model 19 (9mm) I go run a couple hundred rounds through every chance I get. I shoot my Glock the most but, love long guns and shotguns too. I shoot NTPS ....a branch of IPSC (action pistol competition)...in other words moving from one place, engaging several targets, moving to another place and engaging some more...under pressure from a timer. What about you Gardenier?

I mostly shoot rifles. My gun collection consist of a Springfield Armory Milspec 1911 in .45, a Russian SKS, a Russian M91/30, a Yugoslavian M48, and a IMI M1 Carbine.

I never have shot in a match though. I just like to shoot targets way in the fuck out there if you know what I mean (500 + yards). I've been shooting ever since I was 8 so my marksmanship makes up for my fading eyesight.

I have been into it for years Lets see- Competition shooting yep, I like the combat courses. I used to do them all the time using 45 cal 1911 Colt Series 70 all tricked out but for real use not just show. Then I got into the Assault weapons M16 AR 15 Mini14 Law12, Uzi 45 cal (too Big) a 357. Desert eagle. To name a few. Then pistols were always a regular favorite flavors? - Colt 45 1911 & commander, Glock 26, 29 - Smith & Wesson 645 Semi , model 629-2 44mag, Dam I could go on forever. I'm also a NRA supporter, but doesnt it seem the dues are like quarterly instead of yearly?? Ah whatever they do a good job for it.

Avid hunter, enjoy both gun and bow hunting.

My gun's currently are down to:

Marlin .22 semi auto
Old old springfield single shot .22
12 gauge Remington 870 wingmaster magnum
12 gauge H&R Ultra Slug Hunter deluxe

Don't shoot as much as I used to, but I will always own guns, period.

I have one handgun and it's a 1911. I only have one because here in Kail you basically need to give your first born to buy one.

I've had no problems with that, other than the occasional phone solicitation for additional donations. I want to join as a lifetime member when I can afford it, so I can get the leather jacket with the logo.

Yer dudes i shoot when i can, i dont shoot rifles much anymore but my dad has heaps, like 300 win mag, few old .303's from world war 2, .22, .222, ,243, shotgun, etc. We shoot boar pigs, roos, deer, foxes all that kinda shit.

I am more into shooting spudguns now with frozen spuds, its more fun chasing ferral cats around the garbage dump with a spud gun i recon lol, much harder 2 kill, and the chicks absulutly go crazy wen u tell them that you are into shooting ferral cats at garbage dumps with spudguns, if u are in the pub and you tell them that you are garenteeed a root (N) hahah

jim555555555, how have the changes in Australia's gun laws been for people that enjoy shooting sports?

Also, you evidence a major cultural difference when you talk about the chicks perspective. Here in the states, with very few exceptions, chicks would be appalled.

Hey mate, yer since the port authur masscure there have been changes in the laws, we ustu have auto guns but we had to sell them because of new laws, you now have to have every gun registerd, u must like have them for a reason and be a member of a club like the sporting shooters association etc. it hasnt affected people to much i dont think.

Oh and i was only being sarcastic about the chicks digin killing cats, lol, they would freak as well here.

p.s. i hope this post makes scence, at the moment i am very sick and hungover lol sorry

Just wondered. All things considered, I'm glad we have as much rights as we do here, in terms of firearms. There are many countries that don't have the crime problem that we have here, nor some of the great things about the U.S. either.

Hope you get to feeling better soon. I've been there, done that. ;)

I've been a hunter all my life. I'm a member of the NRA as well as the Second Amendment Society at my Law School. I have several guns, but three of my favorites are my Ruger bolt action .22 Hornet (Great varmit round!), my Winchester lever action .22 mag (Great squirrel gun- it's about 20 years old, the action is smooth as silk, and it's as accurate as I can be with open sights), and my Taurus double action .22 mag revolver (built on the Colt King Cobra style frame). I use my Ruger bolt-action .270 or my Win. .30-.30 (depending on where I'm going) for deer hunting.

My next purchase is going to be a Browning Auto-5/Sweet-Sixteen 16 ga. shotgun.

I never really got into gun hunting, as it didn't seem all that sporting to me. I love to go and shoot off guns from time to time though...it's fun as hell.

I did however bow hunt from the time I was 8 up until I was 17. I never got a deer and finally grew tired of sitting in the woods at the ass crack of dawn for hours upon hours.... :)

What's the quality on that Cetme? I've heard poor things about Century Arms ands their Cetmes. Right now I'm chasing after this tricked out Rem.700.

I'm totally happy with it so far! I heard all the horror stories about them. I figured worse comes to worst I can send it back to them and they will take care of it for me. I did a TON of research on it at:

http://www.cetmerifles.com/

and

http://www.gunboards.com

Both have great info and forums.

Remington 700 huh? Hmmmmm

I have this fetish for military weapons, but not real old stuff. Mini 14's AR15's HK's and such. My state jumped on the ban, and now I cant own a HKMP5 - RATS!!!!
There was a company that made a copy that was legal here Specials Weapons. But they stopped all production of it. Now any pre ban MP5 or anything HK that looks like it is 2000.00 to 3000.00 - about 2500+- out of my range. For now!!

I bought a great hunting set-up at Dick's Sporting Goods last year. I thought the guy was knowledgable enough and spent quite a bit of time on me. Don't know, but I assume they would do something similar for a target shooting bow set-up, though if you think you might really get into it you may want to seek out the best of the best.

As far as guns go, I'm looking into getting a new custom built rifle for next deer season. I'll likely go with either a .35 Whelen or a .338-06. Either should be a deer killing machine that would be nearly as effective on black bear, should I ever decide to hunt bear. The likely set-up will be a fiberglass stock with a stainless steel barrel and mauser action.

Im going to a gunshow this week, and Im not sure what to get. I'd be willing to spend only about 150 bucks. Whats good? Can I get good shotgun or handgun for that much?

Good deal. I would not have expected it from you, due to many of your leftist viewpoints.

$150 is really not quite enough to get a quality new firearm, unless you stick to a .22 caliber. You might get something decent that is used. Offhand, a mossberg shotgun or some revolver such as a 38 Special comes to mind.

Perhaps I could be of more help if I knew what your intended purpose is, such as home defense, hunting, or purely target shooting. Also, what is the area the show is going to be held at? Draconian restrictions in that area, could mean higher prices.

You can get various mil surps for $150 and under. I recommened a Russian Mosin 91/30 rifle.

A Chineses SKS could probably be had for $150, which wouldn't be a bad gun for target shooting/playing around.

Definitely one of those states I wouldn't live in. And, realistically, no one would ever offer me enough money to ever move to D.C., which has to be the worst of them.

I take my Second Amendment (the reset button on the Constitution) pretty seriously.
