Rogaine, Avicor...do they work???

Just wondering if anyone has or, is using either of these highly advertised hair-loss prevention products.

Yeah, I have tried Rogaine. I started balding around 22 years old or so. I used it for awhile, and it seemed to work for maybe 8 months. The first couple months, I saw nothing, which was fine, since they said you won't see anything that early. Then the next six months seemed to be looking up. But after that, I saw my hair falling out again, so I stopped using it. I figured that maybe my body built up a tolerance to it or something, so figured taking it any longer would be useless.

So now I just figure I'll deal with the fact that I'm balding, and maybe just embrace it and shave my head bald (and hope I don't get mistaken for a skinhead).

So basically, I think Rogaine might work well for some people, but for me, it started to give diminishing returns.

However, if you buy it, I suggest going to Wal-Mart and buying the Equate brand of Minoxidil. It is the same stuff as Rogaine, at probably less than half the price.

Don't expect any overnight results though, as it takes a long time for hair to grow as it is.


As for Avocor, I heard that it is a rip-off. Basically, it has some supposed DHT blockers in it, along with some ingredient they tend to forget to mention. That ingredient is minoxidil, just like in Rogaine. I believe Avovor's concentration of minoxidil is at a lower concentration though.

I personally never tried the Avocor, so maybe someone who has tried it can share their results. Maybe it does work really well because of the extra stuff it has. I don't really know.


I suggest though that maybe you try Extra Strength Equate brand Minoxidil and see how it works.

The drawbacks to Minoxidil are as follows:

1.) You may have to buy it for months, just to see that it didn't work

2.) It leaves your hair/scalp wet for quite some time, so you have to make sure that:

a.) You have a shirt on first (if you plan on going somewhere, etc.)
b.) Don't lean on a pillow
c.) Don't have a girl run her hands through your hair

3.) You may experience side-effects like scalp irritation or heart palpitation, among other things

I'm fortunate enough to have a healthy head of hair, for right now, though baldness runs in the family. Hell, my mom's father (they supposed factor) must have been the inspiration for the Mr. Clean label. From what I've heard from friends Rogaine is effective. I'm not familiar with the diminishing returns that DS experienced, so I don't know if that is pretty standard or if I just never inquired about usage later on.

the shampoo nisim. Works great for me and i've only been using it for a week. However, i'm not balding yet.. but my hair is thinning. Just trying to prevent anything i can.

Where can you get Nisim? Although you wont be able to tell if your hair stops falling out in a week.
