What do you recommend? Never really drank wine, but thought I could set a little mood for the lady.

There is a line of wines, can't recall the name for some reason, but it has a kangoroo on it, and the labels are yellow, red, or purple, on a dark bottle. It is a cheap wine ~7-9 bucks, but is quite nice. It is popular I think, someone may know what I am talking about.

Sounds good. Maybe someone will come by and let us know. Hate to walk into the liquor store and say, hey you got any wine with kangaroo's on the bottle? lol

If you don't know your wines then you could get away with Two Buck Chuck http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/features/20030225-9999_1c25wine.html

If you want something better but still less expensive then go for Berringers Founders Estate Merlot.

That is the one. I had the merlot and the sauvignon. Not too bad.

The "two buck chuck" looks interesting though.

Jewish wine is good and cheap. Get some kosher shit. I don't like it, cause I am not jewish I guess but it is good shit.

Good and cheap don't belong in the same sentence when it comes to wine. It's all relative though; if you don't know wine, Boones Farm might taste good to you. How cheap exactly are you looking? I consider any wine under $20 cheap and anything under $10 is undrinkable.

Peppoli, a chiante. Bought some at Costco. Around twenty bucks a bottle and it's pretty damn good. I recommend it highly actually.

Keep an eye out for Rosemount Estates wines-- Australian, and quite good. I like the Shiraz or the Shiraz/Cabernet blend, or the Merlot. Figure around $10 or a bit less.
