The Mandingo Complex

The real reason why black men are hardly ever seen in sex shops has little to do with a deep-seated respect for women. Nor is it to do with a strict moral upbringing, argues Shirley Brooks, as she goes out in search of the answers.
Dildos surround me. Dildos of various sizes, shapes and colours, battery powered vibrators, a vibrating handheld vagina. Packets containing blow-up sex dolls, novelty foreplay cards, penis shaped scented candles, 36GG mounds of white chocolate with dark chocolate nipples, bulging off the shelves. Surrounding these exhibits, walls made up of rows upon rows of videos clinically divided into specific genres.
I’m in a Soho sex shop. Two Asian men in sharp business suits and matching side partings hover around the ‘bondage’ section, complaining loudly to a shop assistant that there isn’t anything ‘dark’ enough for them. Several white men of varying ages and social backgrounds scan the aisles. Two young white women step inside to banter with the manager. People from seemingly all walks of life have walked into Pirate of Soho to buy sex toys and videos. But there is something missing.
In all the hours I’ve stood hovering around the shop floor I have witnessed the cautious entrance and swift exit of only one black man. “Black men don’t come in as often as our white customers do. And the ones that do come in don’t buy much,” I’m told by Lamar, the Congolese manager. “Black men ask for condoms, aphrodisiacs and magazines. They don’t usually buy toys.”
Earlier conversations with male friends produced the same information. Most swore to me that they had never stepped foot inside a sex shop. Solomon*, a 26-year-old Jamaican, said: ‘I’ve been in a sex shop about three times. I probably wouldn’t tell my black friends about it though.’ Another friend told me that he had been forced into one by an old girlfriend and had merely bought a jar of chocolate body paint to appease her. A third had entered the forbidden room on a dare with his friends and had not been tempted to buy. No one would admit to buying anything more shocking than a video ‘for a laugh.’
I rest my notepad on the counter next to a terrifyingly large black rubber penis. Seventeen inches long and 4-inches thick, the giant phallus dominates the shop counter, casting a heavy shadow across the white pages. I stare at my notes drawing a blank as to the reasons why black men stay away from sex shops. And then I realise that the answer is already lying on my page. Or at least the shadow cast by its full 17 inches of rubber is.
The reason many black men do not frequent, or do not admit to frequenting, Soho’s brightest and best sex shops has little to do with a deeply harboured respect for women. Nor is it to do with strict morals drummed into their heads by an older generation. The real reason is less noble and goes much deeper than one would expect. The simple fact is that sex shops sell sexual aids. And a sexual aid is the last thing that a black man needs if he is suffering from the latter stages of the Mandingo Complex.
Allow me to elaborate; what I call the Mandingo Complex is the adherence to a myth that emerged out of the twisted ideologies current brought about by the Atlantic slave trade. During slavery the legend regarding the West African Mandingo tribes was that their men were statuesque bucks, virile, potent, and desired by the wives of slave owners. Advertising a slave as being a Mandingo was a sure way of raising a large fee at the selling blocks and thus the name Mandingo became associated with outstanding strength and intense sexual prowess and stamina.
In the seventies, the film Mandingo further solidified the image of the sexually superior black buck. Contemporary black films, music videos, rap lyrics and stereotypes, all reinforce the belief that there is something saucily unique about the black male. Endowed with agility, natural rhythm, and an overwhelmingly large manhood, the sexuality of black males is the stuff of cultural legend and urban myths.
The fact that the humungous dildo, standing proudly alongside the till, is black is surely not a coincidence. The myth of the raw untainted sexual potency of the black man embodied in the novelty penis is simultaneously a subject of pride and envy as well as a heavy burden for the average black man to carry between his legs.
There is evidently a lot of pressure on black men to fulfil expectations in the bedroom. The majority of the men I spoke to told me that they would never buy a sex toy for their partner as it would be an affront to their manhood and bedroom ability. Anthony*, a 22-year-old political science student felt that buying a vibrator for his girlfriend “would be saying a lot on my part that I can’t provide in bed so she needs a substitute.” Theodore, one of the shop assistants, confessed that despite making a living selling sex toys, he himself as a black man would not use a sexual aid as he had no need. Grinning broadly he informed me, “My partners are satisfied.”
Solomon summed it up for me. “Black men are supposed to be good in bed. Big dicks; good movers. There’s more pressure on a black man in the bedroom than there is for a white man. Rap music and soul singers croon about sex and how good they are in the sack so people think that we are super-studs. Some black guys even try to live up to it. Buying a dildo would be admitting defeat.” For some men it is important to fulfil the Mandingo image. According to Theodore, black male customers will happily purchase penis enlarger pumps, Viagra and other concoctions to “make their dick happen.”
The Mandingo myth has left a historical legacy of high expectations upon today’s black male. There is pressure from music, pressure from stereotypes, pressure from themselves, pressure from received folk wisdoms like, “once you go black you never go back”. References to BMWs as ‘Black Man’s Willies’ give a whole new take on the luxury car as a penis extension.
Such advertisements and endorsements make it even more crucial for a black man to do what it says on the packet and completely satisfy his woman in bed. With all of these pressures it’s a wonder that black men are actually brave enough to get into under the sheets.
Theodore finally serves his first Nubian customer of the day. As the solitary black man puts the condoms he has purchased into his briefcase and prepares to step out into the Soho streets his eyes meet mine. A guilty expression flitters across his face for a split second, as if he had been caught out in the middle of a lie.

I can see what he is talking about though. For me, there is no way I would buy my girlfriend a sex vibrator/dildo, I know others disagree with me and find that they enhance sex and all that. But "I" want to be the one to satisfy her and I would feel inadequate if she had to use a device.

I'm in the same boat as you. Furthermore, my gf doesn't even own a dildo. She says that nothing compares to the real thing.

White arent expected to be endowed, so it's a more of an supprise. I think many black men want's to eliminate that Myth.

It's always been a myth really. I've seen alot of black men naked and when I was young even I was shocked that they were my size or smaller. Have seen large ones but it is not common like the myth.
Don't you know that black people are getting smaller anyway? Black people consume alot of fast food, smoke, drugs, drink more than any other race. And yes, those things affect penis growth during puberty as well as in the future.
Okay, over the years Ive read a lot of posts at this and other pe forums discussing blacks and "stereotypes" without an actual black person's input and I hate to say from what Ive read it has been dissapointing.
I just have to say that it is fact that blacks are genetically different than whites, just as with other races such as far east, middle east, and central and south american. African-Americans are more susceptible to certain diseases, our hair is curlier, our calves are higer up on the backs of our legs, among other things. Im not speaking in a superior tone, but I think its time that we all admit to the fact that blacks as a whole are not necessarily better at sports, but we are naturally faster, quicker, and more aerobically inclined. Once we agree on that, I really dont think that the idea of blacks having larger penises is false.
I actually believe that it is true, there are so many genetic variations between races that the chance that blacks on the whole are more endowed than other races is not a myth or a simple stereotype. I really belive that the only reason that there is such a backlash about this is that in terms of popular culture it seems like blacks got the best of both worlds with athleticism and bigger penises, but that may just be the way it is. Im not accusing you guys of jealousy or racism, but Im not gonna deny the fact that in America and the world there is still an attitude against racism yet without ever giving blacks any credit or letting them have anything, which is a result of jealousy and hate.
Not too offend, but if the shoe was on the other foot, there would be no discussion about this, and lets not forget it wasnt blacks who started these claims, I belive they were formed through observation by everyone just as with the athleticism claim. It really is kind of disturbing how often and freely blacks are discussed and sometimes criticized in these forums. Lets also not forget that in the end WHO CARES!!!??? It doesnt matter if it was swedes that could jump high or japanese with large penises, the fact is who you are is who you are and no one can change that. All of these race competition discussions are really silly and are ultimately rooted in racism. If I was born with a nine inch dick I could care less if a girl thouht I was small because I was short and white, b/c if you cant back it up whats the point?
So, come on guys until there is a official global study of all the races in terms of height, vertical, penis length, natural IQ, or whatever (which will never happen) lets just take our differences for what its worth and look at them rationally and accept the fact that we are genetically different without basing a global racial trend on our local locker room or basketball court. I mean were all in this world together and lets just let races take credit for what and who they are whether its a natural genetic trend or a sociocultural development, we all exist and try to improve, thats what counts.

I agree, though I doubt it is a huge statistical difference. For example, "big" white guys are probably as big or bigger than "average" black guys.
I dont think, however, that it is necesarily just white guys who benefit from the attempts to dispel the "myth." Obviously, black guys who are not huge, may feel inferior for not living up to the standard.
Also, it works both ways. There is certainly an effort in the porn industry to focus on black size and there seem to be a few token big black guys in the industry.

For example, if you want to say that blacks are generally larger and more athletic in certain ways, with whites in the middle and Asians the smallest; Would you also be comfortable concluding that Asians have the highest intelligence, whites in the middle, and blacks the lowest? There is at least as much evidence supporting those claims as the penis size ones.
Lastly, I dont really care. I mean, I am comfortable with my size compared to anyone, so it doesnt bother me. As I said, its a somewhat dangerous territory to enter. For example, all these claims are used by racialist/racist groups to support their stances. White racist groups like to characterize black men as over-sexed sexual predators with big penises and small brains

Well, I think that when it comes to intelligence, I consider that cultural and not genetic. The reason blacks are considered less intelligent in America and the world is because they have not been given the same oppurtunites as whites, asian, and so on because of slavery, the manipulation of past primitive cultures, and the stealing of Africa's resources resulting in present day third world countries. Lets not forget many of the great black inventors that rose out of the slave era without sufficient educational resources.
Yet, there is an argument that blacks athleticisim is a result of their primitive hard working culture in the warmer climate, a conditioning resulting in a genetic adaptation, but who really knows. I think the main thing that whites and europeans were blessed with was an early understanding of Christianity and a more rational view of the world, but then how do you explain Asians or the primitive Mayans and all they acclompished?
I really dont like to debate the IQ issue much though, because natural intelligence can be judged in so many different ways and can be developed and allowed to not mature as well, so natural physcial characteristics are more easily verified in my opinion, but im not saying it could not be true considering the present and history.
From my point of view, to really explain it all youd have to go back to when God seperated all humans with language at the Tower of Babylon (ill explain if asked) and go from there, but I dont know.
Whites could be better endurance athletes, which is attributed I think to white muscle twitch fibers, which I think whites have been proven to have more of as opposed to more red fast twitch fibers in blacks or other minorities. Still, there are a large number of African and mideastern minorities that excel in long distance, but just as there are variations in whites maybe there are in blacks.
In the end, I belive God created every man equal and if in His mind we would all contribute in different ways with none overall better than other than so be it. But I cant stress enough how important it is to know that no matter what race you are, who you are is who you are and you shouldnt let anyone undermine your talents or gifts.

You are right that we should care, I was just saying that if it is either one way or the other it doesnt change what you have.

Nobody that is black cares if you are black and not athletic, "hip", or endowed. Being black is not about being athletic and all these other things that (no offense) whites and other people think its about. Being black is an understanding, a common unspoken bond between people who have faced discrimination, hatred, and jealously and share the same experiences. Whoever wrote this article has no idea what being black is about or is a very confused self-hating african-american.
We as african-americans, dont identify ourselves by these things that people just cannont stop focusing on and obsessing over. Our respect for ourselves and our race is not based in the admiration of those outside of us.
For me, growing up in the suburbs I was always held up by my peers to be athletic, ripped, strong, fast, and jump high but whenever this would happen I would just smile and not say anything. Honestly, I never minded this because Im proud of how blacks are well represented in athletics, but it didnt verify my "blackness." My brother has almost no athletic ability, but that doesnt make him a "sellout" or not black. The only time that happens is when a black person actively tries to seperate themselves from other blacks (example: refusing to marry a black woman) in order to not be considered apart of the negative stereotypes, but hey you gotta take the good along with the bad and stay proud.
So if we are more athletic and have larger penises, so be it, and honestly people who arent black really need to stop worrying about it. Well deal with it just fine and we dont need or want others sympathy because its obvious there isnt a level playing field genetically between races, so just accept it and work on what you got whether its speed, smarts, or whatever.
To sum up, it wasnt too long ago that no matter how long our penises were or how high we could jump, you were still just another dumb nigger. So, dont think that we are overly concerned with how others see us, we know who we are and we celebrate it, and we dont need anyone telling us what it is that is or isnt our own.

Well as far as I know Asians don't go on TV continually bragging about their intelligence.
I don't know the mindset of the population of black Americans, but I can get a good sense of it through black entertainment, and the idea of being well endowed seems to be common.

My post was not an attack. I think black people have far more benefits than any other ethnic races and it's true. You don't have asian, middle eastern or other ethnic races funding MILLION OF DOLLARS in charities for the black race only, other races do not have equal opportunities in jobs, other races don't have human rights leaders that defend and fight for blacks, other races don't have equal educational opportunities, other races don't have a whole month dedicated to them.
I honestly find that fucking sickening. And guess what? It is racist to say something against blacks. I see black kids picking on a white kid because he's white and nobody won't say anything. They also can get away calling other races racial slurs yet when another race doesn't use a racial slur but does mention something a little stereotypic about blacks, then that person is racist (ESPECIALLY ON TV).
I notice this everyday and I am fucking mad. All I want is some REAL EQUALITY (yes, that is alot to ask for) but when you see blacks complaining that they don't have enough or they want this and want that, when they are really getting more benefits than any other race (even whites) it really pisses me off -- since most of them are not even grateful.
And that whole hip-hop machismo image promotes the fact that black people are superior to other races and this is no joke. Why is it that these black kids think they are better than other races nowadays?

I think it's great to celebrate who you are without attacking others. Black people are the ones that show off the whole penis myth... I don't think people go point and say look "black people got big penises". I fucking came from a PISS POOR family that lived worse than most black people. Three of us slept in the same room and we lived with crappy plumbing, broken walls, roaches and rats. It's fucking offensive when black people complain about their lack of whatever when my family had jackshit and had to work our way up with no complaint and unfair gov't treatments.

We all have to remember that this is a debate, and most likely in the end people are going to have to agree to disagree. But of course, I have to stick my nose into this.
I think its time that we all admit to the fact that blacks as a whole are not necessarily better at sports, but we are naturally faster, quicker, and more aerobically inclined. Once we agree on that, I really dont think that the idea of blacks having larger penises is false.

Im not accusing you guys of jealousy or racism, but Im not gonna deny the fact that in America and the world there is still an attitude against racism yet without ever giving blacks any credit or letting them have anything, which is a result of jealousy and hate.
I disagree. I think that blacks are getting a lot of credit for their contributions in all aspects of life. Not only in sports and entertainment but for their work in business, church, medicine, politics, etc. You have to realize, not every great achievement, is publicly given credit so the whole world knows. There have been many great achievements by whites, asians, mexicans, europeans, etc that they have not been given the due credit.
Well, I think that when it comes to intelligence, I consider that cultural and not genetic. The reason blacks are considered less intelligent in America and the world is because they have not been given the same oppurtunites as whites, asian, and so on because of slavery, the manipulation of past primitive cultures, and the stealing of Africa's resources resulting in present day third world countries. Lets not forget many of the great black inventors that rose out of the slave era without sufficient educational resources.
I agree and disagree here. I don't know if you are allowed to pick and choose what is genetic and what is cultural based on whether it will fit your argument. The good old debate of nature vs nurture...But you cannot deny that intelligence is passed down in some form or another. If two people are brought up in identical conditions, most likely one will be more intelligent than another. Where did the extra intelligence come from? Obviously genetics. I do think that nurturing does have something to do with intelligence, but only as a guide on how to use it. Nurturing gives you direction, and the ability to tap into it, but all in all, if you aren't born with intelligence, nurturing won't be all that helpful.
On to the next part of the quote...I agree blacks have not had it easy, and everyone knows that they were suppressed. But name me one culture that wasn't? People of the world regard the Jews as a very intelligent culture, yet they had some of the worst things you could imagine done to them, much worse in my opinion than any other culture. The Irish were considered just as low on the social scale as blacks were when they initially came to America due to the potato famine. Like it or not every culture has gone through hardships, the key is moving forward and not looking backwards.
At this time blacks are still able to get an education. They may not have the best schools, or the newest books, but the ability to get an education is out there. And this whole thing about black people not getting sufficient funds isn't totally true. The ones who aren't able to get the funds are mainly the poorer inner city folks. That is not 'only' black people. There are plenty of whites who go to equally as crappy schools.
I really dont like to debate the IQ issue much though, because natural intelligence can be judged in so many different ways and can be developed and allowed to not mature as well, so natural physcial characteristics are more easily verified in my opinion, but im not saying it could not be true considering the present and history.

Being black is not about being athletic and all these other things that (no offense) whites and other people think its about. Being black is an understanding, a common unspoken bond between people who have faced discrimination, hatred, and jealously and share the same experiences.
I fit that description perfectly, other than the fact that I'm not black. I'm pretty sure that almost EVERYONE would fit into that definition in some way or another. Granted, I have not shared the same experiences as you. But you have not also shared the exact same experiences as every other black person.

I am glad you joined this discussion, and I appreciate your viewpoint, and you do bring up good points.
My whole point is: If you want to acknowledge racial differences, as you do, then you can't have it both ways. You have to acknowledge there are areas where some races excell and others where they lag behind. I personally dont like to get into this because I treat everyone on an individual basis. There are geniuses of all races and ignorant fucktards of all races.
I agree some with your cultural view of intelligence, but not all. There are many blacks today who are not affected much at all by slavery and past events ( I will not however, like a lot of people, say that racism does not exist anymore). Many blacks kids growup in well-off, 2 parent households, and may do well academically, yet are stil likely to have an IQ slightly less than a comparable white kid. I really dont think IQ is a huge indicator of success or worth as a person anyway. To me, things that one attains in life are much more valuable than what one is born with.
I also agree that it is often white people who are fixated on black penis size. Others have spoken on blacks in the media bragging,etc. I see this, but I more often see or hear white men and women fixated on this subject, often in an envious manner. In many regards white people are the ones really interested in black penis size.
That said, I dont think the purpose of this forum is to bring down the black race in regard to penis size. It is rather to attempt to deal with things objectively in reality. Such as dispelling myths that "all black guys have 10 inch dicks" or what have you. As I said, I do think there is a racial difference, but I think there is huge overlap.
This topic wasnt originally about racism, but I have to put in my 2 cents. It is true that certain races do have protected status, and if a white person says anything that includes race, he is automatically called racist. Whats strange is, this often when a white person is actually fighting racism. People like Bill Oreilly and Rush limbaugh are called racist for no reason. You might not like them and I admit its easy to not like guys like that sometimes, but I have never seen them as racist. What Rush said about Donovan McNabb was not racist in any way. In fact he was accusing the NFL media of being racist. Many other blacks agreed with him and most agreed with him the previous week on the black coach issue. Clear thinking people knew what he said was probably a really stupid comment, but not racist. Bill Oreilly on the other hand, has supported many charities and raised millions of dollars for mentoring programs and other things for inner city kids. He says seeing how black people were treated in Boston was one of the main reasons that made him want to be a journalist and try to make a difference. Yet he is called a racist by many people. As a hip-hop fan, I can say he goes overboard attacking that, but so do a lot of older black people.
Some of my favorite writers, radio hosts, and academics are black. For example, Thomas Sowell (economist), Walter Williams (past George Mason Economics chair),and Larry Elder ( talk show, columnist). Yet because they all are conservative leaning libertarians, they are constantly called "Uncle Toms" and other racist drivel ( both by blacks and and whites). I see a serious problem in that successful and intelligent black people are ridiculed and called Uncle Tom and "sellout" etc. And I dont meant just by other blacks. When limousine liberal white folks call black people "Uncle Toms" and "race traitors" ( usually in more subtle terms) just because they are either A) Successful or B) not socialists; this disgusts me. Yet when I defend successful blacks who are attacked, I am called a racist?
Racism still exists on many levels. I learned this first when I was about 6 years old. I am a white male and my mother married a black man. I never had any problem with it and never really gave it a second thought. It was only other people that had a problem and tried to put things into my head. It was basically a rude awakening because I thought racism was rare. Yet when I would have friends come over the house and they would never come back or never talk to me again; I realized it wasnt that rare. It wasnt just white kids either. A lot of black kids and their parents thought interracial was wrong. When I went to a new school when I was 11, I made a lot of new friends. One day, I was riding bicycles with my family, which now included a 3 yr old brother and 1 yr old sister and we saw one of my friends. I didn't think anything of it. Yet the next day at school, I suddenly had no friends anymore and no one would sit with me at lunch. People walked by me in the halls and at my desk saying things like "nigger lover." They would smear chocolate pudding on napkins at lunch and say "Does this remind you of your nigger father." They would says things about hanging my brother and sister. My stepfather died when I was 12 in an accident and they made fun of that too. This one guy in particular. As mean as this sounds, I was glad when his father had a heart attack the next year. Almost every day before school, during lunch, and after school, someone would try to fight me or jump me for no reason. This went on for about 3 years until I left school and finished homeschooling myself.
So anyway my point is: Racial issues have a lot of layers, and racism seems to be rare, but its naive to think it doesnt exist. Unfortunately, a lot of people play the race card when there is nothing there. There are racial differences and ignorances perpetuated by all races, and no matter how much we talk about it, we arent changing it. The only cure IMO, is to embrace a philosophy of reason and individualism, but I doubt more than 15% of the populace has.
My post was not an attack. I think black people have far more benefits than any other ethnic races and it's true. You don't have asian, middle eastern or other ethnic races funding MILLION OF DOLLARS in charities for the black race only, other races do not have equal opportunities in jobs, other races don't have human rights leaders that defend and fight for blacks, other races don't have equal educational opportunities, other races don't have a whole month dedicated to them.
I honestly find that fucking sickening. And guess what? It is racist to say something against blacks. I see black kids picking on a white kid because he's white and nobody won't say anything. They also can get away calling other races racial slurs yet when another race doesn't use a racial slur but does mention something a little stereotypic about blacks, then that person is racist (ESPECIALLY ON TV).
I notice this everyday and I am fucking mad. All I want is some REAL EQUALITY (yes, that is alot to ask for) but when you see blacks complaining that they don't have enough or they want this and want that, when they are really getting more benefits than any other race (even whites) it really pisses me off -- since most of them are not even grateful.

My mom almost got beat to death by 2 blacks kids and they wouldn't stop beating her even though they got the money because she was a "chink". They put them in jail and a month later they got released - great justice. My family had to close the business because it was too dangerous and my mom suffered severe head injuries and couldn't work

I agree with whomever it was that said we should be REALLY equal. Yeah, as far as physical characteristics, we aren't equal. Who cares? Do you know who invented Rock n Roll? Who is the King of POP? Your a music student? What about blues, white people made black music popular, stole it , and now many of the younger kids think white people invented ROCK, and POP. Were not to far away from the time that black people got treated like shit, there are plenty of black people alive today that remember it. It still goes on to this day. Black aggression is a clear result of white oppression. Its a reaction of years and years of being opressed, passed on from generation to generation. I wasn't saying anything about who "invented" the styles of music. I'm talking about which race has been more active in developing the styles. And don't tell me black people invented pop music. The original American pop musician was George Gershwin. Rock music developed FROM the blues, which was invented by black slaves. But rock music has historically been dominated by whites. And pop music has historically been dominated by whites. Jazz has historically been dominated by blacks, and so has soul, blues, etc.

Gun control in the US is racist and was actually started to "control" blacks. That argument really doesnt hold weight. No kind or form of racism that any other race has experienced comes even close to comparing to what blacks in america went through during and after slavery. Not only was this racism violent and hateful, but it was supported by the national government until around the 1960's. Slavery itself went on for 100s of years in the world. Some many horrible things happened as a result of slavery, thousands and thousands of blacks were routinely mutilated, raped, lynched, and treated as second class human beings for years and years and years. Now how hard do you think it is for black people to respect white people after all of that!? Blacks have been put severely behind economically and socially because of racism. This is what leads to us living in slums, doing drugs, eating fast food, and dealing with our frustration in a wrong and violent way with reverse racism and superior attitudes. Yeah, I didnt experience the lynchings and what not myself, but Im forced to deal with the aftermath and that is why we get and DESERVE the things that the government gives us. So before you start whining about how blacks think they are "cooler" than everybody consider all we have gone through to get to where we are today, and if we misuse or abuse what weve earned than that is wrong and im sorry, but before you hold us up as such horrible people, think about who you are what white America did even after slavery had ended and how that is the real root of the problem.

Z03, the point is that this isn't happening anymore. The only way to get past all the crap that happened before is to do just that: get past it. Do what you can to make life better for you and your family, because yes, blacks did get put behind by all the racism. But don't expect special rights and protections. The Irish didn't get it, the Jews didn't get it, immigrants from poor third world countries don't get it. Blacks shouldn't be any different. They should have just as many rights and protections as anyone else. No more, no less. You don't deserve anything extra because of what my ancestors did to your ancestors. It's history now.

I agree white oppression, caused black retaliation, no doubt about it. Years and years of mistreatment, even after slavery, even to this day. A black family finds it much harder to get a home with a decent loan, its proven whites automatcially get a better price, and intrest rate, even if the two subjects have an identical credit rating. Same goes with car prices and loans, same goes with insurance. In genral police give black men and women a harder time when being pulled over. Some of those that work as police are racist. Black men will recieve a longer jail sentence than a white man will for the same exact type of crime. Why corprate racism at work. A lot more racism goes on than the normal person believes.

Do you know why the music industry pushes this image with black people? It isn't because white people are trying to take over the world. It's because the audience that primarily listens to this music wants to hear all this stuff you talk about. The music industry is not in it to make people think. They are in it for money. So they promote what the American public wants to hear. Do you think they would promote the "gangsta" image if nobody wanted to hear it and nobody bought it? NO. They do it because that is what is popular. So the artists that really have something to say steer clear and only show up in "the underground" and on indie labels. Why? Because they know that they won't sell millions of records anyway, because the mojority of America doesn't want to hear it. I'm not saying this is good. I wish that some really GOOD music would be promoted. But whoever said this said it best: "Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public." You don't see thought-provoking rappers because most of America doesn't have good enough taste to listen to it. It isn't white peoples' faults. It isn't the fault of "white corporate America." One thing we all need to remember: I don't think there are any more racist white people than there are black people. Yes, a black man is likely to get treated worse by white people than a white man. But the opposite is also true. A white person is likely to get treated worse by black people than a black man would. The thing is, IT IS WRONG, no matter who is treating whom badly.
Arguing about which race is treated worse is like arguing which band is better. It's pointless. What we need to do is not focus on how badly a certain group is treated, but instead focus on treating EVERYBODY with more respect and love than we do right now. Don't look at someone's color. We are all just people. MJ said it best. It don't matter if you're black or white. We need to all just learn to treat everybody better.

I get real sick and tired of hearing black men and women complain about what "they had to go through" like 100 years ago or earlier. It is really not important now. Why live for the past Z03 and worry about what happened then. It doesnt really matter now does it. There are so many other things to enjoy in life rather than wine about how your ancestors were slaves once. This is the problem that 90% of black people have is this attitude that we as white people owe them something. White people dont owe black people shit. Its not our fault what happened 100 years ago and neither is it the black person's fault either. I have many good black friends and get along with them just great. Everyone is different my friend. I am half black and half white, so I find myself in the middle of this issue and I find it annoying when hearing whites and blacks go back and forth. Of course it bothers me more when whites try to right off certain things that I know are true and hurtful.
I think if the conversation is treated when all those come in with respect and try not to get too emotional, we can actually learn something. The thread in deep throats called "Why can they say it" with me and Red debating a bit actually got somewhere without all of the negativity.

As an individualist, I dont believe in collective guilt or collective achievement. I don't believe in "collective" anything. It is anti-conceptual. I dont treat people as lumps of genetic material nor as herds or tribes.
As long as collectivism lives, so will racism. It takes many forms and no matter the name, they are all the same. And collectivism cannot be fought with another form of collectivism. Nationalism or fascism cannot be fought with socialism and vice versa. I think racism will always exist because collectivism will never die, but hopefully it will exist on a small level, in the hearts of only a few cowards.

People are going to have there opinions, racism will exist. It is not about black and white. The problem is bigger then the same shit.
Black people have problems. Hell everyone has issues. What are you going to do about it. Hell racism exists with black people. It is not about white people being racist anymore. Black people have the problem now. So I suggest to those black gentlemen enough is enough stop bringing up 100 to 1000 years of slavery. Do you know why the music industry pushes this image with black people? It isn't because white people are trying to take over the world. It's because the audience that primarily listens to this music wants to hear all this stuff you talk about. The music industry is not in it to make people think. They are in it for money. So they promote what the American public wants to hear. Do you think they would promote the "gangsta" image if nobody wanted to hear it and nobody bought it? NO. They do it because that is what is popular. So the artists that really have something to say steer clear and only show up in "the underground" and on indie labels. Why? Because they know that they won't sell millions of records anyway, because the mojority of America doesn't want to hear it. I'm not saying this is good. I wish that some really GOOD music would be promoted. But whoever said this said it best: "Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public." You don't see thought-provoking rappers because most of America doesn't have good enough taste to listen to it. It isn't white peoples' faults. It isn't the fault of "white corporate America." It's simply a result of our times. People don't want to have to think. They just want to enjoy themselves.

As an example, there was a black guy that was trying to sue a school in my city for too high tuition. His reason? He claimed that the school's high tuition is an act of racism because black people don't very much money and they were charging alot to keep him out.
That is so ridiculous I can't even begin to pick apart how stupid and selfish it is.
That argument really doesnt hold weight. No kind or form of racism that any other race has experienced comes even close to comparing to what blacks in america went through during and after slavery. Not only was this racism violent and hateful, but it was supported by the national government until around the 1960's. Slavery itself went on for 100s of years in the world. Some many horrible things happened as a result of slavery, thousands and thousands of blacks were routinely mutilated, raped, lynched, and treated as second class human beings for years and years and years.
Oh no? So I guess you guys were better off than the Jewish... The whole "black people don't get enough" attitude obviously is created with black leaders because they have obviously felt it. The fact that it rubs off on the rest of blacks is nonsense.

Blacks have been put severely behind economically and socially because of racism. This is what leads to us living in slums, doing drugs, eating fast food, and dealing with our frustration in a wrong and violent way with reverse racism and superior attitudes.
That is the worst excuse you can come up with. Black people strongly encourage the superior attitude towards others from my experience -- and it's not derived from "I was oppressed, I need to fight back" attitude, it's derived from the whole black machismo attitude that breeds ignorance.

Ok, that's fine. I said that in response to whomever was saying that white corporate America pushes black artists to the public as being "gangstas" and stuff. I was saying that if whites push that it's because the audience wants it. It doesn't matter who markets rap as being for "gangstas," my point was that it isn't the fault of white people. I don't know the ages of everyone here, but for me, I have never witnessed this so called hatred towards blacks. Generation X and Y were never a part of it. We were not around when segregation was the norm. So I don't know if people who are having completely different views are people from different generations or not.
But what I do know is that I border between generation X and Y. What I personally have experienced in my life is reverse racism. I was brought up when affirmative action became law and knew that when I went to look for a job, I may be equally or more so qualified but still not get the job. While applying to colleges, I received an application from the University of Michigan, and was disgusted when I saw separate categories for the SAT/ACT scores you needed to get in depending on what race you were. I needed at least a 10% higher score than someone who was black.
Then the decision from the supreme court came about with Michigan about a year ago about how they have been reversely racist in accepting people into their law school and were given a specific amount of time to change their standards. This finally was a step in the right direction in my opinion.
Here's my thing. People of all races, genders, whatever complain about wanting equality. I have less of a chance to get a job than a person of a different race or a woman. It seems to me that being a white man I am now the odd man out. I'm not trying to complain or look for sympathy, but z03, you say white men don't know what it's like to be a black man, but black men don't know what it's like to be a white man either. And what have I actually done to deserve being treated differently?

That is a BIG stretch don't you think. I actually attended UofM by the way. I'm 25 and have seen all types of racism. It exists BIG time man, don't be mislead. I'm very successful and I don't let it affect me but I encounter it alot. This isn't institutional racism but let me give you an example of some situations that were kind of ackward...I used to study on the top floor of the library...meaning that you could only go down on the elevator. I'm not an intimidating looking guy, but I had several situations at UofM where white woman would not even get on the elevator with me. That would just wait for the next one. This is minor, but with employment, etc man racism is still very prevalent..its just more discrete. Remember, African Americans just received voting rights just 40 years ago! We still had jim crow laws!

I have alot of white friends and this funny conversation came up about racial profiling. He had never been pulled over before in his life until this year. He is 24 and he has been pulled over three times in the last several months...and guess when...I was in the passenger seat all three times. So the problems exist.

I was thinking this earlier myself. When people are so quick to pull the racism card, its hard to distinguish when there is a real problem ( kindof a Boy WHo Cried Wolf type thing). Also it really disgusts me when people do this because it makes a mockery out of and is disrespectful to people who had really horrible things and unspeakably racist things happen to them.
I suppose I would like to comment, just to weigh in. I didn't have time to ready every post carefully, my apologies if I am terribly redundent.
I would be a fool to suggest I have the proper few, or comprehensive understanding of all racial issues, particularly those between black and white people in the US. But I would say that comment applies to most anybody. Here is what I am realatively certain of.
Racism certainly still exists, and the racism of the past has molded the black communites and condition of today. The racism towards African-Americans was particularly brutal and irrational, and existed in our very recent history.
Many white people feel a certain sense of outrage that black people complain about the effects of racism because they feel it is either unjustified, of that there is a double standard in regard to addressing racial issues with black people.
It is my belief this outrage is unfounded. However, unjustified as it may be, it also perfectly acceptable to hold any opinon one pleases. What is not acceptable is attempting to somehow rationalize your dislike or opinions about any certain racial group, which is something of a social construct at this point anyways, rather than just say that you don't particularly care for them.
Many posters initially complained about being upset by the "superior" or arrogant attitude they felt they had observed in black people. They used these experiences to make broadly sweeping judgements about black people in general, using personal experiences and impressions to characterize a diverse and varied group of individuals. While not overtly racist, attitdues like this are the seeds of racial discrimination. Black people suffer racial indignities on a much wider scale than white people who are offended by their inability to complain about black people holding, or displaying equally racist opinions. Few (or any that I am aware of) white people have been beaten to death by black police officers who have previously displayed racist tendancies. There are no black hate groups that distribute propaganda calling for race war and extermination. They are very few black CEOs, far fewer black millionares (and I am referring to per capita), and a ghastly amount of young black men will be imprisoned at some point in their lives. The playing field is not equal. While some may feel that black people have at times displayed some hypocrtitical or otherwise unfair practices in regards to race relations, this is hardly a justification of writing off the amount of abuse, former and current, that blacks have suffered and will likely continue to for some time.
Seeing a race display an attitude or behavior that one feels they would recieve more sever penalties for reciprocating is no reason to suggest that the amount of racism towards black people is insignificant. If certain black people do not like white people, or as some have suggested, regard tham as inferior, then that is in fact their right. But understand that what you are observing is more of a culture clash than racial. White America has never been victimized by black people, that is statement does not hold true when reversed.
The resentment towards African Americans runs strong and deep, almost latently, in many individuals, many who would not even consider themselves racist. We all hold certain prejudices, assumptions. I for one, am excited to see black culture step to the forefront of entertainment, athletics, and hopefully other fields of public perspective. While the hegemony of any race over any field is probably neither good nor bad so long as it is not artificially instituted, I believe that the true face of America is a cultural and racial melting pot. One would be hard pressed to deny that the typical WASP class (of which I am a member) has long dominated the face of the country. I for one hope for a future, idealized as it may be and often has been, when our various cultural standards have merged to an even greater degree. This is not to forget history, write off the past, or supress the vibrancy of any unique culture and group, but rather to embrace the future and human brotherhood.
So far as the original topic of the thread, the mandingo complex, that I could not comment on. I could not say whether black men on average have bigger penises or not, nor do I care at all. I do not understand why so many people lobby so hard against the notion. It may not hold any water, but as numerous other psoters have commented, some physical differences are assumed among the races. What is damaging to anybody to suggest that black men have bigger penises on average, except to perhaps the subjects of the article who may suffer from insecurity due to high expectations?
I have read other threads where people argue at length and passionately that it simply cannot be true. Where does this come from? Penis size does not relate to IQ, behavior, or any number of perhaps more trenchant subjects that people tend to point out as matters of racial difference. Why especially, would white people be so concerned with an assumption that primarily affects black men?

When I say I feel like the odd man out, I mean in the business world, I am basing this on afirmative action, and gender quotas that many companies use now. I have several friends who were denied scholarships or jobs or promotions b/c they were a white man. Basically they were the 'norm' and even though they had exceptional records they were left out in the cold for someone of a different culture or a woman who didn't have as good of grades or experience etc.
Don't get me wrong at all I do realize that racism still exists towards black people and I have seen it first hand. When I said I never saw the hatred towards them, I was referring to segregation and slavery (as I reread I didn't put it properly, but was the point of the whole age thing). Racism is a terrible, hurtful thing said by ignorant people. But I think it should go both ways.

Actually Def Jam was mostly run by a white , Jewish (I think Israeli) man named Lyor Cohen, and it was started by a white guy named Rick Rubin. Many of its interns as well as executives have been white. Rick Rubin started it and at the time Russell Simmons and Lyor Cohen were business partners in an artist management company, Rush. They all combined forces in the mid 80s and secured major label distribution. Rubin left to form his own American Recordings (Def American) in the late 80s and Russ Simmons became the head of Def Jam with Lyor Cohen president. Eventually Russell decided to focus more on Phat Farm and community service projects, leaving Lyor Cohen in charge. It was that way probably the past 10 years or so. Jay Z, Rocafella, Murder Inc, and all those people, all those Joint Venture deals were made by Lyor Cohen. Lyor recently left and supposedly at his going away party, Jay Z said he was the best friend he's ever had in the music business.

Okay guys, look, this is the last post Im gonna make about this, because all the respones you guys make ive already answered. If you would take the time to really read what I write and think about it, Ive already addressed your responses.
1. I never said whites and asians could not be naturally smarter. I said it was just as possible as blacks being athletic and large penises due to regional conditioning or it was natural. I only said it was harder to measure b/c a lot of intelligence needs to be developed and is based on education (unless you are thomas edison or something like that) which costs money and is due to where you live, but if you are fast or can jump high with a high motabilism, its just naturally there in any setting.
2. Yeah I live in the suburbs, but I was not only talking about myself, I was speaking in terms of blacks as a whole. And the effects have slavery have still not been overcome. I am of a very lucky minority of current black 20 and 30 somethings where both parents were able to go to college. Its no coincidence that intercities and poorer areas are filled with blacks. The reason other minorities other than native-americans are commonly poor is because they are immigrants and have to start over, not because they were enslaved and then persecuted for 100s of years as opposed to maybe 20 or 30 with the irish, italians, and others in America, which in no way was anywhere near as bad as what blacks faced. This is why we get help from the government to accelerate the process to where it is a level playing field in terms of oppurtunities and education.
3. Speaking of Jews and other immigrants, most blacks arent immigrants!! The only reason were here is mostly b/c of slavery!! And anything that anyother demonination has faced in AMERICA, blacks have faced the most and harsh oppression for the longest period of time. There were laws set up to segregrate and hold us down until the 1960's for goodness sake!!!

And lonerj, your reference to understanding the KKK, do you really think the KKK wants anything to do with any minority, including you? You guys shoud also know that there are more whites living well below their means in America, yet this isnt because their parents and grandparents were poor b/c of segregration or hate at the hands of the government, its simply b/c of bad circumstances. THATS WHY BLACKS GET HELP. Whites have every oppurtunity to succeed in America. orSlavery and its aftermath with segregation, lynchings, and the KKK and everything was longer and worse than the Holocaust, Manifest Destiny, early American discrimination between immigrants. The effects of it are also the longest lasting and severe. Racism and hate against blacks is still very real, ITS A FACT.

I aint going to say much cos I already talked about race before and its a dead horse most the time, with VERY mixed and diverse opinions.
Heres a VERY small piece from me to add.
SOME Blacks play upon their race as an excuse in life, like it or not its a fact ya get some who abuse this and thats why theirs no real healing with some races these days cos of the few who abuse their colour as an excuse for summut they do or want.
I wonna also point out that these Blacks should look to the ASIAN cultures as motivation in life.
The Asians have had it just as hard as any Black culture IMHO, without going into URL links and endless worthless posting but they have, all the crap they have had ... the name calling cos of their apperance like Slitty Eyes, thats very offensive to the Asians as Nigga is to the Blacks.
Yet ya dont see them moaning about it, nor do they use their race as an excuse for their actions ..... they simply get their head down and get on with it, these Blacks should take a note out of the Asians books and act upon it than Bridges can be built in SOME societys especially like that of the UK where feelings are running high.

This dialogue is Great! Unfortunately some of us Black and White have our minds made up on all issues at hand and our not open to change.
I have read alot of fueled statements and it is unfortunate that this is the time we live in. Change is only made through intelligent open minded discussions and actions.
I can only speak for myself and my life as a young Black man. I don't think White America owes me anything! Forget 40 acres and a mule! I'll get that on my own. Just like any other person out here Black, White, Red, Yellow, and Purple most people just want to be given a fair chance at success.
I am originally from Yonkers, NY and moved to North Carolina at a young age. That is where I really started to notice racism. The town was rather small and still to this day has the KKK in the phone book 919-492-7000.
I lived in this town with no Indians, Jamaicans, Latinos, Asians, or anybody except Black Americans and White Americans. NO VARIETY! A town where a little boy no older than 5 yrs looked at me and said "hey mommy look a nigger!"
No I don't have any complaints about being Forced to study Candian history all of my 5th grade year, Spanish history all of 7 and 8th, along with US and European history from the second - 11th grade. I also don't have any complaints about my world history teacher that failed me because I voiced my opinion. European history was World history to her! I asked her could we talk about African history for 1 week during OUR special month. She said yes and began this speech about slavery! Yes little black boy your history starts as a damn slave in the US. Forget your ancestors! Why because she probably doesn't know a damn thing about me or my ancestors. That's when everything changed for me! I stopped looking for other people to teach me about myself.
When you know where you come from and have a sense of pride everything else falls into place. A person of another race can't call me a racial slur and get me bent out of shape! It won't happen. I have a good 70-100 yrs to live if I take good care of myself and it just seems like yesterday I was playing on the swing set, now I'm almost 30. I don't have time to fuck with simple people. I got to make this money and enjoy the time I have here.
On another note I think we should all really practice tolerance and try to get out more. I know damn well you can't really think all white people are racist and black people think they are better than you. My business partner has got to be the coolest white guy in history. The "Son of Sam" was my neighbor. A white cop killed my cousin who was a Navy officer who I could never get to drink a beer or smoke a joint. Measure the Man! You can't hold a whole race accountable for ones actions.
Alright I'm tired! Guess I'll attend today's Black panther march or the klan meeting.

Oh my gosh, that is so typical of Americans (no matter what race) to trivialize the plight of less visible minorities. You need to realize that the issue of race and racism in America is less and less 'black and white'. In fact, hispanics have supplanted blacks as the largest minority group just last year, and this will continue to sway in their direction.
Asians *do* find it very hurtful when they are taunted about their eyes or other things that they cannot change - just as black people are hurt when people make fun of their flat, large noses and big lips and nappy hair. And surely, you've hear of words such as "Chink" and "Gook" and "Zipperhead" - they are EXACTLY in the same vein as "Nigger" and "Spic", but most people pay no heed because Asians and Asian-Americans aren't as visible a group as African Americans, most proably due to their immigrant status (like Mexican people).
I have a personal interest in Asian American issues because I have many friends and extended family members that are Asian. They get the shaft while black people are busy complaining about racism and white peoplare busy denying things or accusing of reverse-racism, and it SO isn't right. In fact, it makes me angry to see the kind of "brush-off" Asian people get. >:( When anyone ever mentions Asians or Asian-Americans, it's usually about Asian women are de-humanized pieces of meat/whores for the White Man, or about Asian men as little turds with no redeeming qualities as men. People - blacks AND whites - need to wake up to the reality that the world (and consequently the U.S.) is a rapidly changing place.

I'm not saying I agree with this, but I just thought I'd chime in on the reason why some racism is more ( I'm halfway asleep and cant think of the right word) talked about or regarded than others. And that is the Racism as a Tool of Power and Oppression theory. Immigrants, Asian in particular, are generally more "economically advantaged" than black Americans, among other things. A lot of people really think only people in disadvantaged positions can really be full victims of racism, and historically black Americans have been treated as second class citizens ( if citizens at all, to put it lightly). An analogy I could use, though not very well at this time, is that of (sexual) harassment. Its a lot more threatening if a person in a power position such as a male boss, makes sexual advances towards a female subordinate than just a female flirting around with a male co-worker. I mean Ive been sexually harrassed many times, but as a strong male I never felt threatened by it. Again my minds not 100% right now and I'm grasping at words and concepts, but I hope you at least get the drift of what I mean to say.

In my area, we are about 40 miles from the beaches and almost every kid loves the water. In addition, we have many urban areas with many minorities. However, some people have played into this role and begin to act like a jackass. The whole point of this little statement is that if a myth holds on long enough, then people will begin to believe it as truth: as African American males tend to believe they have superior penises. I have personally stopped looking at the world in terms of colour, as colour does not define a person. Personality defines a person.
I'm white, and i have met arsehole black people... but then i have also met arsehole white people. the same as i heave met awesome black people and awesome white people. Racism is stupid. If someone who is black starts shit, i don't tell them they are a fuckwit/loser/whatever cause they are black, i tell them they are a fuckwit/loser/whatever because that's what they are. Somehow though, other races automatically assume that one says these things because you are of a different race... I don't get it. Colour/race should not be an issue for ANY reason. We should all grow up and see past the small things such as skin colour.

first, how do u know if im black or white or something else? ive never said i was either or.

(Holding my tongue for as minute) Okay. First you didnt read my post. I said specifically it was not my theory but that I was explaining the psychology behind it. Second, almost ALL non-Hispanic immigrants are more economically prosperous than American blacks, and that includes black Africans as well. There are many social reasons for this on many levels. The immigrants pickup on things pretty quickly, including how to call blacks "niggers." I stand by exactly what I said. And I never once made any judgment on who works for it and who does not. The fact you even would say such a thing means you have never really paid any attention to the numerous ethical discussions we have had over the past several months.

Just wanted to say it's pointless to argue over what race had it worse. However, the American experience is what I know and what I speak of. It's history is filled with terrible treatment of many people of many races. However, there are certainly practices that have effected certain people more than others in a significant way that ought not be dismissed. This is something I have been studying and researching for many years and my views have changed the more I learned certain things. Some of this has to do with the terrible public school system that omits and distorts history.

I do concede however that a fairly large number of Asians who came after 1965 (Thats right - before 1965, it was FEDERAL LAW to barr any people of Asian descent from coming into America - that's incredibly RACIST - an anathema to the US Constitution!) had some money saved up. The most recent Asian immigrants (arrived after 1980) tend to be the most well-off, but they're a minority in terms of numbers. I don't speak about Britian's immigration problems much, because I don't know much about it and I am not living it first perspective as a British citizen. So when those across the pond or in other areas of the world as lonerj (not specifying you) comment on race in America, they usually have little idea how long and how deep certain things have gotten. When you think about things logically all of this does not make sense, it is amazing how the human and it's primate collectivity brain has made a huge something out of almost nothing, through culture contraints and society. In a way it is almost laughable, and seems a form/use that many use to add "substance" or "reason" to their life. IE racism.

I think the lesson is don't expect others to give you things. Even affirmative action was a clever ploy by the american government to subdue other races.
When they did the census an interesting thing came back, as much as 24% of the american population was black. However they decided to call it 12%. So your company or government office must have 12% blacks to be 'fair'.
All races and creeds have had it tough at one time or another. From the Irish and Germans who were taking the jobs, to the mexicans who now are 'stealing jobs'. To english themselves living in say a mexican area. Good luck getting a job when the proprietor only highers family members.
Or you could run and tell the 'powers that be' some of their money. They will make it appear to be giving you money but really in the background make it very complicated so they are actualy taking your money.
That is why asians have been so successful, they work their asses off, they get educated, they apply at lots of companies with lots to offer. The companies that turn them down, actualy lose out because they are skilled.
Many blacks to have been very successful, but its the ones that don't do anything and just complain, and expect things to be given to them, that go nowhere. People will not give you things, they will only take. That is human nature. If you want things you must take for yourself.
Another factor is that I don't think blacks are as motivated by money as say asians are. Most of my friends are asian, but I also hang around with a few blacks to. Although up in Canada they are few, it is literaly too cold for people that have come from the equator regions. Conversly I almost die in the heat even if there for a few weeks, so I would have trouble living in Jamaica for example.
My asian friends want to get married, buy a home to start building equity. Then start building assets. This is what brings them enjoyment is that stability and financial success. And that is great, and I am happy for them when they have success, which all of them are having. They work hard, they usualy only let themselves go out once every few weeks, and even then only for a few hours. And frankly they aren't very interested in things like pumping iron, or the physical type of activities.
On the other hand my black friends, they are completely different. They all go to the gym whenever possible. They get money they spend it on drugs, or alcohol or steroids. They live for today, not for tomorrow. They go clubbing and partying whenever they can. And they hit on women there like crazy, and I've seen them take home a girl about one in every three times out. This is how they want to live their lives. Its not wrong its just a different perspective.
I think thats why women in north america are liking blacks so much at the moment. They want to LIVE life. They don't want another day of homework, then going to bed early because you have to get up early for a big day of school then working your ass off after school. They want that guy who lives life on the edge, who if he can get some cocaine he does, if he feels like a threesome, he doesn't panick about possible std's he just does it.
I have started living parts of my life like my black friends. And people love being around me when I let my urges take control of me. You see a woman thats hot, you could just go on because you've got to get to class, or you could go up to her and hit on her, and be late for your class.
You see although I respect the success that working your ass off brings, so many I see work their ass off their entire lives, and then they die. Live life at some point! Obviously there are times when you need to buckle down and work, but working is pointless if you can never enjoy it.

Asians persecuting asians was an example. White settlers doing alot of racist actions against asians was another example. I was bringing up some case studies. So I guess only anti black racism is only relevent in America or racism against others is nothing compared to . the reason blacks are held up as the martyrs of racism (rightfully so) in america is because blacks are the race that was persecuted and discriminated against by specifically by the us govt the most severly in recent history, the 1900s, when the world was supposedly supposed to know better.
slavery is really not the reason, almost every country used slavery in the past and africans sold other africans to slave traders. america maintained slavery longer than the rest of the world and justified it by theorizing that blacks were second class human beings and it was horrible, but a lot of countries were guilty of this as well.
the problem is that after slavery the govt drafted and passed laws on segregration ostracizing blacks as citizens but still as second class human beings.
these laws existed until around the 1960's and the civl rights movement. no other race in america during the supposedly enlightened 1900s faced the oppression, hate, and violence that blacks had to rise out of in america.
these laws and subsequent stigmas put blacks behind socially and economically leading to the passing of laws recently to help and support their development. the govt did this b/c it was directly their fault.
it was not simply hate or popular public opinion that discriminated against blacks it was the govt. it was legalized and enforced racism and hate. i know other minorities all faced discrimination in the us during this time and it was also bad and shouldnt have happened, but there werent extenisve laws set up supporting this racism in all areas of life.
no other race other than blacks were nationally and legally considered second class human beings so harshly and for such a long period of time in america, let alone well into the second half of the 20th century. combined with other forms of hate and violence that these laws really seemingly justified, blacks have gone through a lot to get where they are and should be applauded and deserve the help and recognition they recieve, and they still fight the stigmas that segregation and the proslavery mentality created.

For much of the time in US of America up until less than 40 years ago, not only was it legal to discriminate against blacks, it was illegal NOT to. That was the real problem and why federal involvement was needed.
This is something I was blind to until not long ago. Philosophically, as a proponent of individualism and freedom of association, I always thought it would be inconsistent to support The Civil Rights Act as far as its scope into private matters. In other words, I thought any government or political entity should be prohibited from racial discrimination. However, private business and private property owners IMO would seem to have the right to deal with whomever they chose. Much the way private clubs can choose their members. I always thought that economic boycotts were the best way to force change as consumers vote with their wallets. I, for one, would never give my money to a company that discriminated in hiring or serving customers. Theoretically, businesses that want to stay open would serve everyone, unless they wanted to lose money and be publicly shamed and ridiculed. Then racists would pretty much congregate at places that shared their views. And well, we wouldnt want anything to do with them anyway.
But the big problem and misconception is that the federal government was the only one interfering in private business. Often, it was state governments that were forcibly segregating public as well as private commerce. For example, even if a restaruant owner wanted to serve blacks, in many places he could be fined and arrested for doing so. Growing up and in school, I was always under the impression that black kids would go into a diner or something and try to order lunch, but these mean white men didnt want to serve them. Now, this was probably often the case. But it was never really emphasized that state and local laws actually forbade it. Considering the laws and the culture of racism, one didnt have to be overly racist to follow law and social pressure and refuse to serve blacks. There were all kinds oif absurd laws. For example( This is going back in time a little further. After slavery, but pre-Civil Rights movement), railroad laws that legally required segregation and if the rail company allowed a person who was 1/8 black to sit with whites or a white person to sit with blacks could be jailed and fined $1000s. It was government enforced segregation that violated all human rights.

stereotypes are based in "word of mouth," rumors, and local experiences so trying to disprove it with that same criteria you are only showing that the idea should be taken more seriously, since you use the same thought process to build your own idea.
its a undeniable fact that races are genetically different. in terms of blacks their hair, torsos, calves, and other things let alone their skin pigment are all different than others. blacks are also more susceptible to certain diseases including certain cancers. so to think that blacks possess a difference in penis size, something so strongly rooted in genetics, it is very possible, but until a true national survery is performed considering all varibles and other factors we just dont know. (itll never happen, its arguably impossible)
also it really doesnt matter, b/c now that we know about pe you arent stuck with what you are born with anyway so we should all really just stop worrying about it. and i hate to say it, but constantly focusing on this issue really seems to just be a simple form of jealousy. yeah its true whites have been responsible for a lot of the pain and suffering in the world, but they have also done a lot of things to develop it as well, which is too often ignored.

of course the holocaust, segregration, and the apartheid laws do carry much more weight since they occured during much more knowledgable times in history, but aside from the apartheid laws (as far as i know, the truth commisions arent very effective imo) those govts have made signifcant efforts to make up for their mistakes.

Okay, over the years Ive read a lot of posts at this and other pe forums discussing blacks and "stereotypes" without an actual black person's input and I hate to say from what Ive read it has been dissapointing.
I just have to say that it is fact that blacks are genetically different than whites, just as with other races such as far east, middle east, and central and south american. African-Americans are more susceptible to certain diseases, our hair is curlier, our calves are higer up on the backs of our legs, among other things. Im not speaking in a superior tone, but I think its time that we all admit to the fact that blacks as a whole are not necessarily better at sports, but we are naturally faster, quicker, and more aerobically inclined. Once we agree on that, I really dont think that the idea of blacks having larger penises is false.
I actually believe that it is true, there are so many genetic variations between races that the chance that blacks on the whole are more endowed than other races is not a myth or a simple stereotype. I really belive that the only reason that there is such a backlash about this is that in terms of popular culture it seems like blacks got the best of both worlds with athleticism and bigger penises, but that may just be the way it is. Im not accusing you guys of jealousy or racism, but Im not gonna deny the fact that in America and the world there is still an attitude against racism yet without ever giving blacks any credit or letting them have anything, which is a result of jealousy and hate.
Not too offend, but if the shoe was on the other foot, there would be no discussion about this, and lets not forget it wasnt blacks who started these claims, I belive they were formed through observation by everyone just as with the athleticism claim. If you're talking about black men there, I don't think women really go for them these days because they supposedly have big dicks. It has actually become cool to date a black men these days (that's an observation - I don't say that with a disapproving tone or anything) - for the women it's exciting because of the taboo, and second it also makes this sort of weird 'social statement' about one's being open-minded and not racist, and finally the recent dominance of blacks in pop-culture plays a big part. I don't mean to offend anyone, BUT it is true that in Eastern culture, doing poorly in academics 'paints' a bad picture on the family's image/name. Thus, the majority of Asian children are taught to study much harder than the typical person of the Western world. There is plenty of evidence to support this too.
In a way, it is sort of racist to simplify matters and say that Whites can only do so much when compared to Asians and Blacks can only do so much when compared to Whites. This sort of logic is also the main reason that I oppose AA - it basically states that Blacks simply are not capable of doing work good enough, and thus, standards need to be lowered. Anyway, not to get off on a tangent, but work ethic, priorities and values are what come into play regarding IQ - nothing is a given in the mind, IMO.

I never said that. It is statistical result of studies. I never said anyone was "dumb", "smart". This is why its pointless to even talk about these matters, since people always twist what you say and apply value judgements to statistics. As I said, there is no moral or political value in statistics. People apply them arbitrarily. I never said anything was a given and apparently you ignored my whole philosophy of individualism. Hello, not that I'm saying that any race is smarter than the other but most of the smart asian kids in the school barely studied but always got good grades while the others who had similar grades studied very extensively. I found these people to be extremely gifted and naturally smart. All white races of peoples throughout history have not created anything. They simply went to Africa, where the world's first universities were, studied there and took credit for ideas that were already being used (ie Greeks and Romans). Or whites went to Asia and learned things over there, and used them for their advantage. Or maybe a better exaple is how whites came to America, a land that was already discovered, stole it, and then took credit for its discovery. I am not trying to be racist here but a good bit of you who think blacks have low IQs need to realize that blacks have been opressed for a while and some of has become self inflicted. if given the oppurtunity, black people have the abilty to completely dominate any are we wish-not just sports. If you are up on your reading, you would know that most of the modern medical, engineering, and technoological breakthroughs were pioneered by black people (and other peoples of color). Maybe you missed my point. The point is I try to focus on the concepts of individualism. You can say asian people are smart because they study but many of them are naturally smart, you can say black people have low IQs but as I said I see all these children blowing me away. I am trying to get rid of those trying to rationalize that one person of a race is better because they belong to a race with such comments as "I believe asians are small because the survey says so" or "black people are naturally dumber because of some scientific research". The whole white people stole everything comment is really ignorant. Every groups of people learn something from each other and the people who inhabited here and made this country just happened to be white. Whites just happened to be on a conquest of imperialism and there are other non whites who did the same. I am not some pseudo-intellectual or never claimed to be a damn genius. I have read books on the political meaning of race through sociology and understand the unimplied, subconcious acts of racism and sometimes the world reeks of it. First off, I think it is possible to say blacks have larger penises etc. I am not saying this is true, but certain ethnic groups have similar features etc. because of similar genetics, so i don't think it is an unreasonable claim.
This thread basically has become all about racism, so I will put my two cents. I am arab-american, and i know first hand that racism is still common in the US. I have been called sand-nigger, spic, desert spic, names like this. I have also seen racism against many of my friends, black and arab. I think that most modern racism stems from lack of knowledge however. People will naturally feel more comfortable with people like themselves, while feeling on-gaurd around people they are not familiar with. If someone grew up in an all white neighborhood and did not know any black people, he might feel scared or intimidated around one of he ran into him. Because people are not familiar with other cultures races etc, they label them with stereotypes in order to try to classify them. People hardly ever have the whole story when it comes to creating stereotypes or labeling people based on race, but i know every person of every race, classifies people based on race stereotypes in their head. Some more than others. My black friends will see someone white and say, look, a crazy white boy, or a white friend will say look, another asian who can't drive. The only way to eliminate this is to completely diversify your surroundings, but this is not really possible.
Lastly, a lot of white people talk about how they are sick of black blaming problems on slavery and things from the past. These people do not understand because they themselves have not experienced it. Blacks will no matter what have a harder time succeding in America because of things that have happened in the past, which the aftermath of these things still affect them today.
When my father came to the US, he was not allowed by the US gov. to get a job because he was an Iranian, so he lived with 20 others in a small apartment working numerous illegal alien jobs putting himself through college. He could say that racism or ignorance makes it harder for all people coming to this country, but a person who has never experienced things like this will just say its another minority using racism as an excuse, which is not the case.

We are all using anecdotal evidence, and that really proves nothing. If we assume that any of you are speaking the truth, then it cannot be true that all blacks are not well hung (or they are). True, but I also want to note that I don't think that draw varies as much as people like to think. with all the research I have done on average size the deviation went from 5" to 6.5" with the majority falling into the middle somewhere. There are going to be freaks of nature either way (smaller or bigger than this scale) but I think it is safe for us to believe that average size is a relatively stable number.

like most inner cities i grew up around mostly blacks...but we had all kinds in the neighborhood....my bestfriend of 11 years and now girlfriend is a beautiful albanian woman...she grew up on the same block as me...dealt with the same struggles growing up...just like the asian cats from my block.and peurto ricans...and especially the haitians..we grew up together not fighting....for what we was all in the same shit....the whole nigger or nigga...whatever you want to use was a frequent word we all used as we grew up...i never took offense to this hearing it from the people i grew up with...cuz i knew it was not out of hatred or spite...or meant to be dearogatory...they grew up just like me...we called each other that...don't get me wrong someone outside my circle saying would not be tolerated...hey that is just the way of the world...i'm sure everyone crew is like that....but i feel many people that posted have valid points....long story short we all got it hard...we all know struggle..regardless what race....they are going to be people always in the grind and they are going to be priveledged people...this is not based on race....yeah i know minorities (all included) had a slow start coming out the gate..but they are slowly but surely closing the gaps...that is the ones that want too....we are in the land of opportunity....i came up out the 'jects....i am in college...after here i'm going to grad school...our system is still fucked up...but it is been liked that since our first president and honestly is a slow changing process....but as long you we honor our mother and father...be good to one another...take care of our kids...hey everything else will fall into place...out

Ok, a long the lines of this whole satisfying women thing and black men. Here is another one it would be interesting to hear some comments on. And that is black men and performing oral sex on women. The reason I bring this up is that many times I have read or heard black men say that eating pussy is something a "faggot" does. ( interesting since I thought male on female was a heterosexual act).
This relates to this topic, because from what I infer from these comments: It is implying that it is only "manly" to fuck a women ( by penetrating vaginally) and I guess somehow needing to stimulate her orally means you are small or cant fuck or something. But all these people on a hip hop message board I frequent ( allhiphop) were saying things like " I cant believe so and so admitting to eating pussy.. and he is just a pussy eating faggot"... Same people also got way otu of line when Usher said a girl had stuck her finger in his ass. I posted something about how its not that big a deal and that it happens , and its not like he got a dick or a strapon up his ass, then all these people said I was a faggot who got fucked by women ( again notice the contradiction) and their message board was "homo free in 2004" and that I would get banned for being a faggot as they put it.
So the reason I bring this up is this is a viewpoint I have seen from some predominently black groups of people and I guess this relates to the whole "Mandingo COmplex" Any thoughts?

I think that to "them", eating pussy is seen as subservient. Just like when a "bitch" or a "ho" "gives them some brain". They see oral as the suck-er being lower in status than the suck-ee.

You think some article in XXL or some rapper saying "bitch gave me some brain" is what black people really think. That's like quoting some heavy metal band and saying" all white guys think this" because such and such said it.

I know exactly what you were trying to say. Whites for the most part are not categorized, they can "be" whatever they want. If they want to be a teenie booper, or a punk rock doofus, or can even like rap. There are no predictions or sterotypes based upon that. Where as if one sees a black guy the captions that usually come to "mind" for some people are "Insert rap speech etc...".
Thus why aren't there sterotypes based on heavy metal hair bands and whites...is what you are saying....the how would you like it.

i also enjoyed reading the debate on racism...it is funny to hear people talk about this subject...cuz i am sure almost everyone here one point in their life was mistreated because of the color of their skin or ethnicity...we take those occasion and form views as a whole...which isn't right...i hear people say i'm not racist..i like blacks....or i have black friends..why can't they just be friends..hopefully we all have friends or aquantances of other races and religions...to broaden our views and perspectives.

I like what you got to say, i think you are right.
Well my life didnt start so good, my father became an alcoholic and was very evil. So my momma and i had to move, to my grandma. Later to a suburb, and she got a boyfriend who was good in the beginning but later he became satan himself. Because one day when my ant and my mom and me were home. He came into the appartment building, and he smashed holes in the wooden door with a crowbar. He almost made it, if it hadnt been for some neighbours getting him out of there. Who knows what could of happend otherwise...
So the start wasnt so good, well it maybe isnt as bad as for others. But my momma made the best of the situation. when i was like 8-10years old i stole a purse and things for about $150. Not so much, i know. Then in the same years i stole for $500, video games and such. I never figured out why i started, it was so easy. My friends and i liked to destroy things outside aslo... Then i just stopped, i dont know why either, but it was good because i could have been some other person then i am today.
To be honest i miss being criminal :/ Everyday i think of stealing cars and such. But i never do it.
This aint nothing compared to others, in america its probably alot more, because of the size and the condition there.
Many have also lived that flavless wonderfull life with both parents to, but i havent. Dont know how that is, im yellous about folks that have.

Sorry, man. You are way off and out of context. My comments were based on what real people have to say about things, people who happen to be black. Now you could argue whether they are "real" people since they are online, but then that would apply at MOS as well. This is also a discussion I have with people in real life as well, and most of my black friends would agree with me on certain subjects ( such as certain sexual characteristics found in the black community, the "DL- AIDS" epidemic, view on homosexuals,oral/anal sex,etc).
Not all black people are "hip hop" you are right. As far as the race card, this is one whitey that is beyond reproach on that one. And as far as Hip Hop, Ive been down before most of these cats were born and most of my black friends learn about music from me.
Again, keep it in context. I never said all black people think a certain way. If you read any of my posts, I can say with all due modesty I am probably the least racist and most objective/rational person in the world. If I am racist, I guess that means people like Oprah are racist for having shows on the Black DL lifestyle,etc. Im sure these attitudes arent specific to a race, but the incidence and display of these behaviors is more apparent in certain cultures. My point is very simple..there are alot of references in this thread quoting rap songs and rappers and using those references as protocols for what black people think: This is a major misjudgement of a reference point. That is my point. Whether you have black friends or they come to you in particular for opinions on black music is a completely different matter which I am totallay indifferent. Again my point was simple and unilateral towards anyone making the claim...Hiphop doesn't represent black culture.
