Check it out. I'd been running XP Home Edition for a few years. 5 years on my other laptop, and the newer one, which is about a year old had the same on it. I'm a tinkerer, and goofed some stuff up on the newer one. SO, it was having some lag issues and I was getting an error message which did not affect performance. Just something that popped up on boot up. On the older laptop, I decided since I had two laptops, I'd play around with Linux. That went well, but it was still running a little slow. I did not have an original XP cd. Many of these newer computers don't come with them. WTF?? The manufacturers would rather have you call them, and pay $90 for a damn restore CD than include it. Being the resourceful guy I am, I got online and dug around on some torrent sites. ;) I found a cleaned up, just the essentials included copy of XP PRO "Black Edition". After install, I saw my movies were not working properly. Had to get audio/video drivers again, but after that, a java update, and a few other small things, I'm back in the saddle. Better than before too on both computers. It's like two new laptops! Here's what my desktop screens look like btw. I get a kick out of it, thought you guys might.
If you want this copy of XP:

Good stuff mate; I Read about that edition and its got good reviews with the extra software bundled in but be careful about built in malware, virus and trojans etc.
I also use Linux on another machine from time to time with Ubuntu but I'm used to Windows so thats my main OS machine.
Linux is best for specific things you want, such as running a server or hardware firewall .. much more stable and secure than windows but than again windows is much more popular and hence has had more interest from the malicious side of the web, which exposed its underbelly to exploits and all them patches that comeout.
I like Vista but you need to have lots of RAM on your machine to get the most from it and its not as stable in my opinion than XP.
Windows next installment will be out approx October-December this year and is called Windows 7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7).

Looked into this version and would say to everyone to keep away from it, as most copies are full of trojans, virus, worms and other nasties. Your connection will just be hijacked and used by whoever is at the other end, like a zombie machine.

Pirated Windows isn't supported by Microsoft. Also, the people who make the installer or CD image can put whatever they want in it. If you install from that CD or installer, you are circumventing all security. You are telling your computer to go ahead and install whatever's on that CD, without knowing if it includes backdoors for remote access or control, malicious programs, keyloggers or other spyware, or even rootkits (imagine malware installed "under" the operating system).
Given that Ubuntu is completely free (in both senses of the word) LEGALLY, why would you ever install a pirated Windows? If you need Windows, buy a computer with Windows on it. If they don't give you restore discs, demand them, and don't wait to be caught without installation discs after a disaster.
It's not my problem, right? So I should just butt out and shut up, right?
Well, except that when your computer running pirated Windows becomes part of a botnet, it sends spam that annoys me and makes e-mail delivery difficult. Worse, whether it's sending spam, participating in DDOS attacks, or scanning other computers' ports and attacking them, your computer starts to participate in overloading bandwidth, giving ISPs and backbone providers arguments (still illegitimate, of course, but they seem more credible) for "tiered service," i.e., the end of net neutrality.
Also, posting links to copyright-violating material on this site is a good way to get this site in trouble. Do a Google search on "the pirate bay" and see what I mean. And I'm not just referring to the torrent link in this thread. There are a bunch of other "dangerous" threads around.

Pirated Windows isn't supported by Microsoft. ...WTF, that's Bull-Shit !!! It's their product, they should support it. (LOL)

That's the exact same one that I use, I especially like how it comes packaged with a lot of good generic drivers as well as software that is essential. You just have to be careful about which one you download. Most good torrent sites will have comments and ratings, making it pretty easy to see which ones have virus'.
Also, you should uninstall World of Warcraft, just because. :)

Damn, why doesn't everyone just use the Apple OS, no issues ever. I have no idea what a virus is, they don't exist in the OSX environment.
haha true but once apple/macs get popular as the pc you will have the same problems with a mac as u do with a pc
the only reason why apple doesnt have any viruses is because its not as popular as pc the % of pc users is wayyyyyy more than mac but once that equals out then u will start seeing problems

Yeah Apples are really good but like NWA said, once they become mainstream and common the exploits are found and is why Windows is always slagged off for that. Cant be that bad though, they made massive leaps in the technology world that the competitors were miles behind at the time. Gets on my tits when people start calling Gates and Windows as we wouldn't be able to function without it, lets be honest.
NWA regarding the link still used, STAY AWAY from it ... full of Trojans and alsorts of shit some nasty little fucker placed inside it. Dont waste your time with it, piece of shit.
ya dont get me wrong apples are the shit and very cool even tho i dont know how to really use one lol but i have and there very nice machines! but im glad apples/macs arent the only ones out there and im glad pc is not the only ones out there its good for there to be compititetion it keeps both on each others toes
the only thing i dont like bout the macs is the price.......... 1000 bucks for a 2 gig of ram and i think 160 gig hard drive maybe 250 gig
my netbook- 309 bucks- 2 gigs of ram 160 gig hard drive lol
regular laptops
regular acer 4 gigs of ram with 320 gig or even 500 gig anywhere around 500-700 bucks
if mac/apples were the only ones out there then poor folk like myself wouldnt be able to afford a computer lol
and macs have the same insides as other computers the only thing that is different is the os and its fancy looking which i will admit that aluminum or stainless steal wtf it is is pretty sweetlooking lol
oh ok do you know where i can find a free windows xp that actually works lol i have a laptop that doesnt have an os and i dont want to spend money lol so any ideas?
