SIMPLE yet EFFECTIVE is the ingredients today!
You want to send very confidential documents or/and attachments to someone else, sure email can do it but risks are involved with that data getting compromised or worse.
https://lockbin.com/index.php Works really well and the info never gets saved on the server or saved. Its fully encrypted and you password protect it. Once that is done, all you do is send the URL link generated to your friend and tell them via another method the password. They click the link and enter this password to see the info sent! It skips all email servers, logging, sniffing etc.
http://www.websecureemail.com/ is similar but also uses PGP certificates.
http://www.enetplanet.com/enc/ is the most easiest to use and yet still powerful. You enter the text to send and can also attach files or other work. Then enter a password and click encrypt .. you see a garbled up text, copy all that and paste it into a word document. This is then sent to your friend who copies and pastes it into the enetplanet.com/enc/ panel with the password you use, clicks decrypt and voila the info is shown! Again skipping email servers.
An example to see how this is works is as follows. Download the attachment in this thread which is a simple text file, copy all the text from it so select all and enter it at http://www.enetplanet.com/enc/ type the password bigcock and click decrypt to see the actual text! Easy isn't it!
Thats email taken care of, now for the encryption of data on hard disks and the like.
http://www.r-tt.com/data_security_software/ has a free app that works like a charm. Easy to work and very secure.
http://www.safehousesoftware.com/SafeHouseExplorer.aspx has a free application which is really secure indeed! Uses 256 bit Twofish encryption the successor to the well known Blowfish and alternative to the more widely used AES algorithm. These guys do a pro version as well but that's not free.
http://www.truecrypt.org/ the most well known and again its free. VERY secure and versatile with tons of options. It can become complicated and complex, more used to encrypt hard disks, make hidden secure virtual drives and hide the OS etc. The former two were more for data and files then actual entire systems as this one.
