Scientific data for herpes transmission. Whats the risk?

Mods feel free to move this to the appropriate section of the forum.

I recently found out that a woman I thought very highly of and am very attracted to has HSV1 and HSV2.

So quickly, as a note to the rest of the community: Beauty, intelligence, and other positive attributes don't shield against STD's. It can happen to anyone. It has nothing to do with promiscuity, character, or whatever. Every time you have sex [outsite of a monogamous relationship] you take a chance. And some of us are luckier than others. Never assume it is safe to eat that pussy without a dental dam or fuck her without a condom because she is a classy girl.
Edit: Also, never assume it is safe to let her (or him) perform oral sex on you without a condom. If your partner has oral herpes, you can end up with genital herpes.

Now back to my question: What are the chances of herpes transmission? More specifically, what is the risk of transmission when the infected female partner takes Valtrex, is not in the the middle of an outbreak, and I use a condom?

I am 100% clean, and I would like to stay that way.

I have checked https://www.cdc.gov/ , https://www.drugs.com/valtrex.html , and a slew of other STD websites, but I cannot find numbers. I want statistics. Can you guys help?

For example, here is a question with a clear numeric answer: What are the chances of getting pregnant while using a latex condom and using the pill?
My box of Trojan latex condoms say 2 out of 100 women will get pregnant when using condoms correctly every time they are used. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/le...h-control-pill says that 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant when taking the pill correctly. Thus the answer is 0.02 * 0.01 = 0.0002, which is 0.02%, which is 2 times out of every 10,000 acts of intercourse.

on one side she might be a keeper for being that honest with you she cares and didnt want to just hook up and infect you, on the other side if you dont have genital herpes already you are giving up a lot for a relationship that like all relationships may come to an end one day.

letting him know is a good way to know she is aware of the trouble she can cause.....

Re: Scientific data for herpes transmission. Whats the risk?

I guess I should have also said there are certain risks I am willing to take.

In the example I listed before, I have taken that risk and feel comfortable doing so. 0.02% chance of knocking a girl up are pretty good odds. I'll take that risk.

Unfortunately, I have no way to calculate my risk in my current situation. If it turns out that my risk is something less than 1%, I think I'm comfortable taking those chances. However, if it turns out that having intercourse while she is not having an outbreak, shes taking Valtrex daily, and me using a condom only brings the risk down to 20%, I would not take that chance.

When I read about using condoms to prevent transmission of genital herpes, what I find is "Latex condoms help reduce transmission, but the herpes virus can be present on skin not covered by a condom, like the inner thighs". I would like to think that the CDC or WHO could assign a number to how effective condoms are for preventing Herpes transmission.

And when I read about the efficacy of Valtrex, I saw "Valtrex will reduce transmission by 30%". But I would like to know 30% of what.

Maybe I should just go to a Planned Parenthood or someplace like that. I'm guessing STD's are a big part of their daily work. I have a feeling my normal primary care doctor won't know the statistics I am looking for.

We did not have intercourse...but I wanted to. Fuck this girl is hot. So instead I fingerbanged her until she came. That was still alot of fun.

Without any good information, I have to assume there is too much risk.

Re: Scientific data for herpes transmission. Whats the risk?

For those that care, I got in contact with a "Sexual Health Specialist" and she gave me some good numbers.

Unprotected risk of genital herpes transmission from female to male is 4%.

If you wear a condom, and avoid intercourse during an active breakout, and she takes a pill for herpes suppression (like Valtrex), the risk for genital herpes transmission from female to male is less than 1%

Transmission rates of male to female are much higher.

Unfortunately, the source of those numbers are the doctors she works for. I wish I could post a link to a source for you guys.

It gives an estimate overview but still valid. I would make the assumption the numbers will be close no matter what the source.
