    Stretching to Make Yourself Taller?

I'm curious if anyone here knows anything about stretching to make yourself taller. I've been doing some back stretches over the past 3-4 weeks to decompress my spine, and I'm about 1/2" to 1" taller than I've ever been (after 4-5 years without any growth), so I know that this is possible.

Ultimately I'd like to get another 3 inches of height, but I feel like with simple stretching I can't get quite enough torque or force to really stretch my back apart. Does anyone know any great resources or have experience with this?

I bought a book about this awhile back but I didn't stick with it longer than about a week because I figured it was a hoax...but if you are actually seeing results, I might start again. I can find the name of the book later if you want, it gives a program.

    What stretches are you doing?

I'm getting fast results because my back is super compressed and fucked up. I had a pinched nerve in my back and I'm in college, which isn't normal. I'm trying to figure out how to generate more torque and maybe mixing that up with HGH to really grow the cartilege in my back. I think an inversion bench and weights at the same time could do it, but it's hard to say.

I'm not sure I would trust any books. I've seen the online sites about height increase and they're BS. The exercises they give don't cause enough force to lengthen your back efficiently, so it's a poor use of time. I came up with some stretches to focus on the most compressed areas of my back, and I suggest you do the same.

    Cool, thanks man.

I have had a bulging disc in my back for years and have wondered what that is costing me in height. It pinches nerves going to my hamstrings, causing it to feel like I pull them if I run VERY upright.

I saw an MRI of my back and like 3-4 discs are slightly bulging, so I wonder if stretching them out like you are saying would help.

Yeah inversion table is the most common method I've heard of that actually works...30 minutes a day and you'll probably get 3-4 inches within 3 months...course you have to not hang directly upside down as that could cause a blood rush to your head...but that'd be the way to go and if nothing else it'll still relieve tension/pain in the back so if you somehow don't gain anymore height it'll still be good for the pressure release!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Had a friend with a thyroid problem. She started doing yoga to help maintain weight and she claims its made her taller. I think it has to do with improving your posture. If you walk around like an catholic student sits then you will be taller. I think separating the disk of the spine happens when doing the stretches in yoga....I don't think mimicing the yoga instructor that laughs will help you grow though.

I highly doubt 3-4 inches in 3 months is even possible. With stretching you dont really gain any height, it just makes your posture better so you look taller, the same for pilates. Think of a piece of string that you make a little s curve in it then straighten it out. It looks shorter but in reality its the same size.

As for increasing HGH, this will do nothing for you once your growth plates have closed.

Actually I already have noticeably more space between some of the 'problem' discs in my back, so I don't think it's just posture. I've done yoga consistently before, and it never made this much of a difference.

An inversion table does seem like it might be good to try, but I have too much stuff going on in my life already. If I can brainstorm a way to multitask while I'm using one, then I'm giving it a go.

Yeah the space between your disks increases, but it will shrink back once you stop stretching. Its all a posture thing.

I know that the medical community pretty much ignores height increase, but do you have any scientific evidence to back that statement up? I've heard so many anecdotal reports concerning massive increases in height that I doubt it all comes from temporary changes in posture.

I already know about how astronauts return to their normal height, but they aren't doing anything to stretch the back PAST this natural point, while I will be doing this. Going further with this idea...astronauts all gain like 2-3 inches in space because their spines are decompressed to their natural positions, but there are many stories of people gaining far more height than this from exercises.

Increasing the space between your disks is a waste of time... it is temporary at best because there is nothing physical that your are stretching or expanding. The weight of your body will naturally take up that space within an hour or so after you stop hanging. The only medical way of increasing height is to break the bone in your legs and slowly stretch them as they mend. It is very time comsuming and VERY painful but you can permanently gain about 3-6" (max) of height on it.

Not true. If you stretch cartilege enough then it slowly turns into bone. I think age may play a factor in this process, but I'm only 20 so that should be young enough.

I guess this is something I'll just have to test out.

Find me one credible source with picture proof of somebody who gained height after age 20. Some Joe ScHydromaxone on the internet says they can help you grow and will show you how for $20, but have no proof. Its all a scam, which is why doctors dont look into it becasue it is impossible to increase height once bones fuse. Except for when they break your legs and you can grow like 3 inches for $20,000- $40,000 assuming you can find a doctor and not walking for over a year. Just like the astronouts height is temporary, so is stretching.

It is physically impossible to turn cartilage into bone by stretching it. You clearly don't understand human physiology.... test it out all you want.

I'm pretty sure growth plate cartilage turns into bone. If my growth plates aren't totally fused then this should be possible. I read some articles forever ago, but I don't remember much.

Re: Stretching to Make Yourself Taller?

It may appear that cartilage is turned into bone during the growth process but what is actually occurring is that bones are REPLACING the cartilage. In either case... stretching does nothing to encourage the bone growth process. For stretching to work, it would mean that weight on the bones/cartilage is what causes growth to stop but since we know that is not true... i seriously doubt that taking weight off the bones/cartilage will cause them to grow.

I'm still gonna do super intense stretching and I'll report back if I get another inch or two taller. I absolutely have to do it in any case: my spine was so compressed 2 months ago that I pinched a nerve hardcore and was getting shooting pains down my dick.

Just doing a bunch of different stretches I think are good. I looked at one or two forums and they looked like bs... nothing could produce enough torque for me to feel like I was going to benefit. I'm doing some really intense bridges, some side bends where I open up my chest to the ceiling (Remembered it from yoga), and a stretch I made up where I touch my toes (actually wrapping my hands around my feet) and then I push with my legs and pull with my arms while keeping my back relaxed. The last stretch seems crazy effective, and hurts like hell. My back pains and cracks have gone way down since I started. I spend maybe 10 minutes a day on it.
